Nina Bayer of Lunch Hour Stories tells why this journal is one-of-a-kind

In 2008, The Review Review mailed a questionnaire to the editor of nearly every American print journal. Below you will find Nina Bayer's responses.

1. Why should a writer submit to your magazine over the hundreds of others?
E) Because we exist to support writers, especially new writers. How many editors provide personal feedback on nearly every story they receive and are willing to assist with 3 or 4 revisions before accepting a story?

2. Which statement best describes your editorial process?
B) We look for prose that pulls us in on the first sentence and holds us for the rest of the day. But in our case, it's only an hour.

3. What is the absolute worst thing a writer can do when submitting to your journal?
E) Submit an ordinary story about ordinary people doing ordinary things. BLAH!

4. If your lit-mag were a form of transportation, what would it be?
E) An hour-long ride in a bubble bath on wheels

5. What is the biggest contradiction in your personal literary tastes?

E) We only publish literary fiction, but we use a really wide net and occasionally fish in the "genre-mild" pool

6. If your literary magazine were a meal, what would it be?
B) A multi-cultural schmorgesborg so spicy that your eyes water

7. If your literary journal were an animal, what would it be?
C) An exotic bird that is simultaneously beautiful and scary

8. What three words come to mind when you hear the phrase "Experimental prose"?
C) Innovative, Creative, Alive

9. What three words come to mind when you hear the word "plot"?
A) Suspense, action, conflict

10. What excites you most about editing a literary magazine?
A) Discovering new talent
